USB 3.0, marketed as SuperSpeed USB, introduced a major architectural change by adding additional data lanes to support full-duplex communication, allowing simultaneous data transmission and reception. It increased maximum throughput to 5 Gbps, improved power management, reduced latency, and enabled significantly faster external storage and high-performance peripherals. USB 3.0 also introduced improved error handling and protocol efficiency compared to USB 2.0.
