Single Mode Fiber uses only one light ray (or mode) through a 9 micron cable and can transmit up to 100km.
Here’s a singlemode st patch cable. Notice the cables come in pairs. This is because the light signals travel in only one direction, so you need 1 cable to transmit, and one to receive.
