RPM (revolutions per minute) is a unit of rotational speed. In computing hardware, it is most commonly used to describe the spin speed of hard disk drives and cooling fans. Higher RPM values can improve performance but often increase noise, heat, and power consumption. Example: A 7,200 RPM hard drive typically offers faster access times than a 5,400 RPM drive.
