Short for Power Supply Unit and is a hardware component in a computer or electronic device that converts AC (alternating current) from a wall outlet into the low-voltage DC (direct current) needed by internal components. The PSU supplies and regulates power to critical parts, such as the motherboard, CPU, and graphics card, and often includes protections against power fluctuations. PSU specifications include wattage, which determines the maximum power the PSU can supply, and efficiency ratings, which indicate energy use and heat output.

There are various types of PSU, modular allows users to connect only the cables they need, reducing cable clutter. Non-Modular comes with fixed cables, which can lead to more cable clutter. Semi-Modular has some fixed cables and some detachable ones for flexibility.
