A nanometre (nm) is a unit of length equal to one billionth of a metre (10⁻⁹ metres). In semiconductor manufacturing, nanometres are used as process-node labels related to transistor density and scaling rather than exact physical dimensions. Smaller nanometre values generally allow higher performance and lower power consumption. Example: Modern CPUs are manufactured using 3 nm or 5 nm process technologies.
