IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) is the fourth version of the Internet Protocol and the most widely deployed addressing system on the Internet. It uses 32-bit addresses, allowing for approximately 4.3 billion unique addresses. Due to address exhaustion, techniques such as NAT and the transition to IPv6 have been introduced. Example: An IPv4 address such as 192.168.1.1 identifies a device on a network.
