IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is an international standards organization that prepares and publishes standards for electrical and electronic technologies. In computing, the IEC is known for defining binary prefixes such as KiB, MiB, and GiB to eliminate ambiguity in data size measurements. IEC standards promote global consistency and interoperability. Example: Reporting memory sizes in MiB follows IEC standards.
