A type of non-volatile electronic storage medium that can be electrically erased and reprogrammed. It is used for storage and data transfer in consumer devices, including USB drives, memory cards, solid-state drives (SSDs), and many digital devices such as cameras, smartphones, tablets, and MP3 players.
The two main types are NAND and NOR, named for their resemblance to the respective logic gates. NAND flash is primarily used in storage devices like SSDs and memory cards due to its faster write and erase times, as well as its higher density. NOR flash is used in embedded applications and provides byte-level random access, suitable for both program code and data storage.
