exFAT is a more modern file system developed by Microsoft to address the limitations of FAT32. It offers excellent cross-platform compatibility, making it suitable for external storage devices like USB drives and external hard drives. exFAT has a significantly larger maximum file size, allowing for files as large as 16 exabytes, which is ideal for handling large media files and backups. It also has an enormous maximum volume size, making it well-suited for high-capacity storage. While it is not as universally supported as FAT32, exFAT is widely used for portable storage devices and is also found on some memory cards and modern external hard drives.
