A 2013 standard operating exclusively in the 5 GHz frequency band, with data rates theoretically up to 3.47 Gbps. It uses advanced MIMO and beamforming, allowing devices to focus signals toward specific users. 802.11ac introduced MU-MIMO (Multi-User MIMO), which improves efficiency by allowing simultaneous data streams to multiple devices, and 80 MHz or 160 MHz channel widths to increase bandwidth.
